Six tables in the old store shed

Wool felt, one lamp apiece, a crew member walking the floor and not a single cent riding on anything.

How it runs

Sitting down, standing up

A dealt hand under the table lamp

Four tables take whoever turns up. Two can be held on the phone for groups of up to five, and we release them fifteen minutes after the agreed time.

Each table gets a fresh deck every week, a score pad and a lamp. The pads are torn up at close: nothing carries into the next night and nothing is recorded about who won.

Our floor person is not a referee and not a dealer for hire. They explain a rule, deal when a table asks, and make sure nobody ends up sitting on their own by accident.

Games played

Five hundred, euchre, cribbage and a friendly hold'em — for points only.

Table size

Five to a table, four at the learner session.

Score pads

Torn up at close. No ladder, no ranking, no history.

At the felt

What the tables run on

Counters belong to the house, score the night and hold no monetary value whatsoever.

If money appears on a table the hand stops; if it appears twice, the evening does.

Personal decks stay in your pocket — we supply the cards and change them weekly.

The floor can move players between tables to keep the numbers even.

Learner seats are free and are not taken by anyone who does not need them.
